As a young journalist, I think I decided to go this route because it was the only occupation that could stimulate thought and provoke reaction from the community through telling truthful, fair stories. As many writers can attest to, the occupation is challenging.

I never really had a second career choice. If I did, it would have to be writing-related, or a job where I could deal with people, either one-on-one or in a public forum.

I completed my post-secondary education at the University College of the Cariboo in Kamloops, earning my Bachelor of Journalism degree.

When thinking of favourite stories, a few stand out, but there are too many to name. I guess thus far in my young career, it's the stories that can make a difference in people's lives that really stand out - when there is a real community problem, and through finding the truth you help solve the problem, it's the most rewarding thing you could ever ask for.

Some advice I'd give people interested in journalism: Don't get caught up in seeing your by-line - it's secondary to the story.

Work hard, have fun and don't quit!
