Mandate: To inspire wonder and build understanding of human cultures and the natural world.
Features: The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is Canada's largest museum of human cultures and natural history, with more than six million objects in its collections and public galleries showcasing art, archeology and science. The ROM showcases its extensive collections and leading research from ROM archeologists and scientists in all parts of the world.
The ROM is currently undergoing a major $270-million renovation and expansion project known as Renaissance ROM. The bold new Michael Lee-Chin Crystal addition, designed by Daniel Libeskind, opened in June 2007. It features seven new permanent collections galleries, Canada's largest hall for traveling exhibitions, restaurant and retail facilities and a new main entrance.
