Expertise: The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctor's represents the regulated Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) of Ontario. Naturopathic Doctors have expertise in stimulating the body's own healing mechanisms and in treating the cause rather than the symptoms of disease. The patient is treated as a whole person and the ND takes the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions into account when developing a treatment plan. NDs have expertise in the area of environmental effects on the body, alternative and complementary treatment regimes and use a variety of treatment modalities including: clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, physical medicine (hands on techniques for joints, spine and soft tissues), acupuncture and oriental medicine, and lifestyle counselling. Established 1950; 5-9 employees.
Mandate: To support our members from a position of financial prosperity to build public awareness of naturopathic medicine and principles and professional recognition of our essential role in health care in Ontario. This is accomplished through publications (The Pulse for Professionals and the natural Path for the public) and through educational and social events for the professional and for the public.
Features:
· The Executive Director of the OAND is on the Board of two other agencies: Stop416, a drop-in centre for homeless and marginalized women; and F.A.C.T., Friends of Alternative and Complementary Therapies, an organization designed to help the public determine credible CAM therapies (www.thefacts.org). She also recently served on the Board of Planned Parenthood of Toronto.
· Every year we provide events/training/education for naturopathic doctors and the public ranging from an organic family picnic to a 2 1/2 day convention and trade show for NDs and students;
· We can speak about government policies especially in the area of professional regulation and health policy related to women's health;
· We can provide speakers/spokespersons on almost any health related topic.
