Expertise:
The Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE), Canada's centre of excellence for energy efficiency and alternative fuels information, is playing a dynamic leadership role in helping Canadians save millions of dollars in energy costs while addressing the challenges of climate change.

Mandate:
Established in April 1998 as part of Natural Resources Canada, the OEE's mandate is to renew, strengthen and expand Canada's commitment to energy efficiency. The OEE originated out of Canada's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by six percent below 1990 levels by the period between 2008 and 2012, as agreed to in the Kyoto Protocol.

The OEE manages several energy efficiency and alternative fuels programs and related activities aimed at the residential, commercial, industrial and transportation sectors. The consolidation of these programs under a single organization enables the OEE to be more proactive in promoting energy efficiency and more comprehensive in meeting the information needs of clients, who range from individual consumers to school boards, hospitals and large corporations.
