Expertise: the Energy Technology branch employs 300 people.

Mandate: the Energy Technology Branch (ETB) is one of the main research and development arms of natural resources Canada. In partnership with industry, ETB develops and delivers knowledge and technology based programs for the sustainable production and use of Canada's energy supply. ETB 's programs are delivered under three umbrellas: the CANMET Energy Technology Centre located in Bells Corners, Ontario, the CANMET Western Research Centre Located in Devon, Alberta and the CANMET Energy Diversification Research Laboratory located in Varennes, Quebec.

Features: ETB is a network of federally-owned and operated laboratories which performs much of its work on a cost-shared or cost- recovery basis. The federal investment in energy S&T is matched more than dollar for dollar by other organizations. ETB has over 100 industry partners in research.
