Year Established: 1979 (previously the Canadian Association of Principals of Independent Schools for Girls (formed in 1932) and the Canadian Headmasters’ Association (formed in 1936)

Mandate:
The Objects of the Association, included in the Letters Patent approved in July 1981, were reviewed and endorsed by the membership in 1995. The Objects indicate the mission of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools.

The Objects of the Association:
- to promote throughout Canada and elsewhere the interests of independent schools and to preserve and perpetuate the associations and traditions of independent schools;
- to promote, support, and protect the status and interests of independent schools and the general well-being and welfare of such schools;
- to consider and discuss all questions affecting the interests of independent schools, to initiate and watch over and, if necessary, to promote deputations in relation to general matters affecting independent schools, to originate and promote improvements to the general welfare of independent schools and take such other steps and proceedings as may be deemed expedient in that behalf;
- to promote and engage in enterprises of a charitable nature and intent, including the promotion of meetings, dinners, conferences, proceeds of which may be used and devoted to the attainment of these objects and for the general welfare and benefit of independent schools;
- to do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
