Expertise: Established in 1905, the Nova Scotia Agricultural College currently maintains 825 students, 164 staff members and 66 faculty.
International Operations: NSAC is developing an international reputation through its global outreach programs and projects with exchanges to such countries as Jamaica, Cuba, Ghana, England, China and Estonia. The NSAC recently received an honorable mention in the Curriculum Change category for its course in Island Food Systems through the Scotiabank-AUCC Awards for Excellence in Internationalization.
Mandate: The Nova Scotia Agricultural College takes a leading role in providing education, research and public service in the agricultural and food industries and related disciplines. The College is dedicated to helping people acquire the skills, wisdom and independence needed for a lifetime of learning and contribution to the well being of Atlantic Canada and other regions both Canadian and international.
Features:
· Over ninety per cent of students are employed or pursuing further studies within six months of graduation.
· Working in co-operation with all aspects of industry, producers and government, the NSAC has become a key centre of agricultural research in Atlantic Canada.
· Cited by Chatelaine magazine as one of the ten best towns in Canada, Truro is home to the NSAC. Situated on 265 hectares of fertile intervale along the Salmon River, this university college is one of the most modern, best-equipped colleges in Atlantic Canada.
· NSAC provides the only comprehensive professional program in Aquaculture in Atlantic Canada. A 12,000 sq. ft Aquaculture facility provide students with state-of-the-art technology for dealing with finfish and shellfish species.
· Accommodation and dining facilities are available for up to 350 students. Graduate student housing is also available.
· At NSAC, professors take a personal interest in students (12:1 student/teacher ratio) and students are encouraged to participate in all areas of college life, including a wide variety of sports teams, clubs and social activities.
· Registration for NSAC is conducted by a computerized registration system allowing students to register and make course selections from the comfort of their own home.
· The College awards a renewable entrance scholarship valued at $6,000 to the top applicant from each of the four Atlantic provinces and one to a non-Atlantic student. The scholarship encompasses tuition and residence costs at a shared room rate.
